A lot of Growing up to do.

Many of you are aware if you know is a person. That my strengths are I'm a nice individual but i think another one of my personal flaws is my fiery temper. Yes this blog is not only going to address Taiwan issues but my own personal being as well.

First of there is a behavior I really truly despise from foreign men and that i attempting to break up a serious relationship. Many foreign men come into Taiwan it's obvious they're losers. IE they look totally like guys who back home in America or whatever country they're in couldn't hold their own there so they come to Taiwan? Why because Taiwan needs political allies so they're willing to give any white person even if he is a piece of garbage hand outs better starting salary than anyone. In addition these idiots come in and totally disrespect Taiwan. However, that's not only in Taiwan. Recently the significant other in my life went to America and she was approached by this socially inept scrawny guy. Even though she refused more than once the loser kept on trying.

Now yeah the guy was wrong however my temper got the best of me. One I should be proud my girlfriend stood by my side. Two I should also be proud the reason she did that was because she cares very much and I am very happy she feels the same way as I feel about her. However, for some odd reason that just wasn't enough for me. My anger peaked to the point where I relished annihlating him in a fist fight since one i'm physically fit and incredibly aggressive. However, I know and many friends I talked to have informed me that this is not the way mature individuals solve their problems. No woman likes their husband or boyfriend being short tempered and always inclined to throw punches anytime something is not right or when they don't like something. I am not an 18 year old anymore and I just can't solve my problems by fist fighting or using my power to hurt people I just flat out don't respect or like.

Yes it is true many foreign men in Taiwan or abroad are disrespectful dicks that need to learn something called manners and social skills. Still I can't counter their lack of social skills with violence or anger. Even though my temper and my predilection towards violence has gotten better with age. I still have an awful lot of growing up to do.

The Pitfalls of Independence.

First and foremost let us clear up an issue. The independence that this post will pertain to is not the DPP's eventual agenda of an independent Taiwan. No the independence that will be delved into will be mental independence and free will on Taiwan. Over the past half a century Taiwan has progressed from the heyday of the tyrannical Chiang Kai Shek to the relatively openness and freedom of choice of today. However, there is still much that needs to be improved. What I am indicating is called "free thinking" and the autonomy of the individual.

But, what does all this mean? Simply put many people in Taiwan are still afraid and fearful. Fearful of expressing themselves. It is often a Taiwanese mentality to be inured to bad environments. Their response has often been something of this nature. "Oh well that is just the way things are we have to accept it." You name it in the past they have accepted. Bad working environments where the boss PAYS YOU GARBAGE 30,000 a month then treats you like garbage for a job that has minimal benefits Taiwanese have accepted. Bad relationships between couples have also been accepted. You name it in the past Taiwanese people have accepted and tolerated garbage.

While this does seem bad Taiwanese people are starting to change. There is more free thinking occurring and it's only gaining momentum. This should be viewed in a positive and beneficial light however it isn't. Why? Because this type thinking and increased awareness will disrupt the order of Taiwanese society. IE the order of a bunch of drones that just work like mindless slaves. What's wrong with questioning an obviously flawed system.

Ok lets do a run down. Let's talk about many my friends who work in Taiwan. They work in finance firms and get paid a bullshit 1,200 USD salary for a job they would get 6,000 USD a month for in America. Keep in mind it's the same job function. So if someone expresses the fact that they don't think working a crappy a job where the company makes a lot of money underpays you and on top of that even mistreats is a good idea they're considered evil? Give me a break and grow up people. In America people get mistreated all the time at work at least they get paid decent salary regular raises and A PROFESSIONAL work environment. Now in Taiwanese company you get paid garbage, they yell at you and insult you in front of ALL YOUR CO WORKERS, and then they pay you a salary that is befitting of a man servant or maid in America. I'm just surprised people on this island have accepted these idiotic circumstances for this loNG.

Furthermore why is complaining so bad? Oh it's because Taiwanese people rank low on self improvement or taking responsibility. An employee leaves because they work shit hours for shit pay. It's gotta to be the employees fault. Oh no no no it's not your fault for calling the worker a pig, lazy and worthless. It's not the boss' fault at all because when people sign up for employment they're just DIEING to be personally insulted at a place that already pays low and offers no growth unless you're the biggest sycophant ass kisser in the office. Unless you're that as my friend said "They just ride your talent they use you to make 600,000 and pay you 35,000 I'm not dealing with this shit i'm going to get my MBA and work in New York it's the same hours but more pay and has growth".

So is free thinking really bad? No it's not bad. Taiwanese people are just beginning to realize there is more to life than just saying YES TO EVERYTHING. People now realize they don't need accept abysmal jobs, bad boyfriends or girlfriends, or do things just because people say so. This type of thinking is only getting stronger and stronger. But it's common sense. There is only so much you can do. Sooner or later people will begin to question things that are wrong.

So you idiots who believe the old ways can believe what you want. You can make independent people outcasts(which is probably why in Taiwan many girls that are single aren't ugly or pretty it's usually the ones that you can't push around and actually look like they can form their own thinking). Fact is this new type of thinking is not going to be stopped.

The Road to unhappiness

Love is an a feeling of affection between a man and a woman. These days it also includes a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Regardless this feeling is a human trait that is only unique to certain animals. When this feeling grows strong enough marriage can be an choice the couple chooses to exercise. This is an extremely difficult choice that many couples need to consider. The ramifications are enormous as well as the consequences. There are just so many things to consider before deciding to make this life altering decision.

However, what if marriage were not based on the feelings of affection. What if marriage was consecrated based on shallow superficial aspects in our lives? This is what this entry will be discussing the traditional perspective of marital relationships on the island of Taiwan.

While this may be a novel idea to many people, tradition views of marriage include marrying at a certain age. It also involves courtship, observing the background of a person then going then deciding whether or not the person would be suitable for marriage. This is of course logical and there is nothing wrong with this type thinking. However, the conflict arises when people begin to force the issue of marriage. They are transformed from logical human beings into illogical ones that are desperate for either a husband or a wife. Usually this results in forcing an unnatural issue. There is also an incredibly high likelihood that marriage will not be one of bliss but rather near moribund anguish. Why does this occur?

One reason is because marriage is NOT A FORCED issue. It is not a forced issue whether you are as young as 19 or as old as 60. Frankly put a person should never FEEL the need to get married because it is socially acceptable or not. This event should be based on an individual's feelings and their own choice. The act of marriage is basically a lifelong commitment. When someone states "I do" it is not just a mere two words. Those two words result in a lifetime of filial piety and commitment. You can't just say those words to anyone you choose just because you feel you are getting old and you feel it will not be gaucherie for you not to be married and conceive children of your own. Forcing yourself to marry or being pressured into marrying at a time when you are obviously not ready or you are person marrying a man or woman whom you do not share feelings of affection for does not garner social acceptance. It only leads to the a road of misery because you are coercing yourself to do something that is against your own true desires.

Furthermore there is another disturbing mentality amongst the elder generation. They constantly seem to drill a certain thought into women's heads and men's heads. One is women should just find a husband to take care of them. To me this perspective is a bit too much. Initially it does seem like a viable option however, in another view it is also stating "You are not capable of holding your own or surviving as a person so don't try to be independent have someone take care of you".

Men aren't given any better advice. They are often told they are to take care of their wives completely and it is not implied but, rather directly stated that they should have a wife that is not their equal or superior. I have heard this all the time such as my mother stating "What kind of shameful man are you for saying it's OK for a woman to make more than you". That is complete rubbish and such bigoted idiocy. One she basically insulted HERSELF with that remark. Second what is wrong with a woman making more than you. It is thanks to this narrow minded mentality that results in women who are strong(mentally) and independent being single in Taiwan for the most part. It also makes men afraid of a challenge and view women in a negative light.

To close of my argument marriage is not something that should be brought up because you wnat a provider, a doll, social acceptance, or any other superficial idiotic feelings. Marriage should only be considered when the feeling is real and it lasts for a long time that is one thing. While money having a provider is quite important it should NOT be the main reason you decide to marry.

The Illusion of Strawberry Fields.

Strawberries are a pretty tasty fruit. It can be consumed alone, in fruit salads, dipped in chocolate, and well you get the gist of it. However, the strawberry this post is addressing is not pertaining to the fruit that gives us such pleasures. The word strawberry is an infamous term in Taiwan. In addition it is often a derogatory term used candidly to label indolent youths that are financially unsuccessful malingers that continue to thrive on their parents' good graces. Basically this being strawberry is more less being labeled a useless waste of space youth that does not contribute to the betterment of our society. While this term is truthful to a certain degree, it is in my opinion that the term strawberry was conjured up by a lack of understanding and openness to societal transformations.

Four decades ago Taiwan was not a hospitable place to live or work. To further prove this point my friend's father became an independent adult at the age 13. Furthermore my High School educated grandfather spent 12 hours a day 6 days a week hammering nails and working construction in order to support 6 children. My father has often told me of the rigors of working on his farm for his father in order to make a living. Those were indeed hard times. However now our society has changed.

In our current state it is no longer a necessity to be that assidious in our daily lives. In Taipei now there are numerous luxuries in place that were not in place 30 years ago. Due in large part to Taiwan's better economy throughout the 1980s and better living standards many people no longer need to endure the trial by fire our parents underwent to make a successful living. Our environment has been drastically transformed. Now it is not necessary to be 21 and and work hours of hard labor. In addition, the entertainment industry has blossomed too. We now possess modern movie theatres, numerous night clubs, and many other modes of fun.

The transformations in society is where this problem arises. Many of the older generation see most youths partying and having fun and they claim that we're a strawberry generation because we did not work or labor as assidiously as they have in the past. Since we have not mimicked what they have done, we this generation are automatically labeled as lazy indolent losers.

In no way will I dispute the fact that there are spoiled little brats that have never worked a day in their lives. However, as a society's modernity rises and it gains increasing affluence like Taiwan did spoiled kids are an inevitability. Just look at America we see TV programs about spoiled kids of Orange county. But does that represent the majority of American people? NO it doesn't. There are still many people pulling 12 hour days at firms in New York City or factories in the midwest. Fact of the matter is people still work very hard it's just the effort has adapted to society's evolution. Even though we have more luxuries and higher living standards the creed of hard work has not vaporized it has merely evolved and become suitable for our altered society. We have not been transformed into a bunch of lackluster bums.

On the contrary, this could not be anything else that is further from the truth. During my time spent in Taiwan, I can vouch for the fact that there are MANY people from ages 20 to 30 that work VERY VERY HARD. From my days in Hess I saw very young people in the form of my Taiwanese native co workers that worked hard and put in their best efforts. Furthermore one of my friends use to work at a television studio for 12 hours a day and 6 days a week. BEfore my friend JC quit his job he was constantly at work for the same amount of hours as well. There is also another friend of mine who I will call JL who also works a lot at a bank. In all the people of Taiwan still work very hard. If we are being called strawberries based on a few idiotic television ads or the fact that we did not do things exactly the way our parents did it then that's complete bullshit and incredibly rude and disrespectful to us as diligent human beings. I can continue to ramble on and on about how many people work hard the list is jut too long but these are just prominent examples. Most of my friends work hard as do most people in Taiwan. If they were called lazy strawberries it is fairly evident all of them would find that remark to be rather offensive.

Skeptics might disagree with me citing the partying and the constant quitting of jobs from numerous people. But, that is also a superficial perspective. So if we quit our jobs and party we are bad workers? That's poppycock. In our evolved society we now HAVE A CHOICE. This is the reality some work environments are not compatible with an individual's personality neither are some job functions. So if they quit take a few weeks off and find another line is that equable to being a lousy lazy bum? NO IT ISN'T. Maybe back then jobs were scarce and you needed to do things you did not like to maintain your survivability however, in our modern times that rule does not apply so much anymore because our surroundings are not as harsh. It's also common sense.

Lets create a correlation first. We're a on a mountain. Back then we needed to hike all the way down the mountain with our bucket to get water by the river. 30 years later we now have a pump to bring the water up to us. You see now we have a choice and that option to exercise. Maybe some of us enjoy the walk down the mountain and maybe some of us want to exercise the option of using the pump to acquire water. Either choice we make it doesn't mean we are lazy or stupid. Some individuals like the hike nothing wrong with that. While some says "Oh fuck that shit why walk down when I don't need to" there's is also logic in that type of thinking. So the rhetorical question being presented now is why do we have to work as hard as you did WHEN we can do it a less punishing way and still obtain the same results?

Now lets move on to clubbing. Yes back then in Taipei there was no Champagne bar, Luxy, Vibe, Roxy 99 or many other things. So a few of us go to clubs to get a release from the working day. There is nothing wrong with working hard and playing hard after work. It is quite shallow to assume everyone who goes to those places are just the moral fiber of society. Again this is what we call new options being presented. After work some of us like to go home open up their DVD stack and watch movies(me) while others like to go to clubs pick up women or men. It's just another choice that is available to us. Frequenting these places does not make us bad people nor does 2 hours a day at a club give the implication we are lazy human beings.

The basic message is just because our generation does not do things EXACTLY the way you do it does not mean we are lazy. There are still many people in Taiwan that work hard and are strong independent individuals. They deserve the utmost respect.

Relationship Failure

The bond between a man and a woman can end abruptly and suddenly. There are always a myriad of reasons on why this event occurs. Some of reasons are infidelity, lack of chemistry with your partner, or a relationship that seems contrived(this means you know you don't love each other but you still insist on continuing). However the reason for failure I'm going to be addressing in Taiwan is a rather prevalent one. That issue will now be referred to as "lack of respect". Which from my perspective is an incredibly serious offense to be committed against any individual.

Before we delve into the calamities of this behavior let us explore what respect means. To be brief respect means giving people the treatment you wish to receive. Treating people as your equal and trusting their opinions. Most significantly is not patronizing an individual person. In Taiwan many relationships either it's same race same country, same race different countries, and different race different countries revolve around this. When respect is not given to an any of the two individuals it is highly unlikely a relationship will not be just a fleeting moment.

However, how serious of a problem is lack of respect on this island? In my opinion it's quite a severe problem. ThIS NOT FOR ALL RELATIONSHIPS but it does indeed account for a large number of them. There is just a total lack of respect. Numerous men and women somehow do not view a relationship as the bonding of two mature individuals that have amorous emotions for each other coming together and sharing a significant portion of their lives. In the perspectives of numerous people they view relationships not as an interdependent relationship but rather a depedent one.

Dependent relationships can be defined as verbally abusing your girlfriend or boyfriend and always demanding them to do things for you. In addition it could also be viewed as expecting an individual to stop their lives so you can fulfill your own selfish agenda. In Taiwan it seems to be a norm. Where men do not view the woman of the relationship as a reliable individual. They in fact just see them more as chattle or property. Taiwanese seem to have this ridiculous that belief that a superior can treat an underling however he or she wishes. For instance a boss hires and employee and he or she then abuses the the employee, they will feel they did nothing wrong because a higher rank individual should have the right to treat his underling however he wants right?

It seems that a lot of men in Taiwan believe they are above women and when a woman enters a relationship he has the right to treat her the way he want. However, that is everything but the truth. Fact of the matter is if you treat you a person with no respect you will anger them. WHich is probably why many people quit their jobs each day. Simple conclusion if you give people shit no matter who they are they won't TOLERATE IT. It's the same wherever you go in the world. Many women I have spoken too have communicated to me the frustration they experience when their man shows utter lack of concern for her feelings. However, when the man experiences pain of any kind the woman must be their to help him. They somehow feel that they are the man and she is the woman so she will listen to him by default and stay loyal. This is absolute rubbish because loyalty and fealty are not preordained. They are EARNED through effort. If you are a miscreant who acts like a consequential pompous jerk towards your woman she will indeed LOATH YOU. The behavior you receive is a like a mirror. If you treat someone well you will see a good reflection(you will get that in return) if you don't then you will most likely get something horrible as a reward.

Furthermore men aren't guilty of this crime numerous women are also equally to blame for their horrible predicament. This does not include all women
but many Taiwanese women also do not respect men. They treat their boyfriends like personal bulters and treat them like a low underling. Whether it be calling them 15 times a day and then getting angry when they're boyfriend wants a little free time. This is not respecting an individual because you are not offering the man his own personal space. Neither are you allowing him to express his personal freedom. A relationship is not suppose be interdepent and recipricol. It is not meant and will never be intended to be similar to the way a master treats his slave. For instance if a man is out and all the sudden a woman calls and yells at him for NO good reason while he is having a night out with his friends, that can be construed as not respecting your partner's free time. In addition it is very selfish and extremely impolite as well.

The stupidity does not end there. Oh it certainly does not. On many occassions when a relationship ends on a bad note one of these two types of men or women would often get upset. In typical idiotic fashion they will attempt to exonerate themselves from wrongdoing then proceed to wonder why the relationship ended on such a bad note. It ended on a sour note because you never respected your partner. You were either too busy treating him like bulter or 3 cent man servant rather than real boyfriend or you were too busy seeing her as just property that should help you fulfill your needs while you have no intentions on aiding her. Fact is no one individual will tolerate mistreatment from anyone. Simple fact is no one will give you respect based on the fact you are a parent, a teacher, an elder, or a superior of any kind. People will only give you the respect when you give it to them.

Taiwanese Guys Sipping the Haterade

But, where do we start? This topic has been popularized by many foreign men and even my Taiwanese friend who attended Middle School, High School, and college in a Western Environment. The popular belief is "Taiwanese men are losers that do not know how to trick women". It seems that no matter who I ask, whether it be Overseas Taiwanese, Taiwanese guys with girlfriends, ABCs, or white guys they all seem to agree on this opinion and why is that?

First of all the Taiwanese guys that do not get a girl I do realize that they lack some confidence and aggressiveness. What exacerbates this situation is many of them usually resort to petty remarks and hurl platitudes at people with girlfriends. Like for instance I was having coffee with a friend. It was a nice relaxing reunion which occurs once every three months since I live in Taipei and she resides in Kaohsiung. The mood was pretty amiable until she kept getting phone calls from a man who was depressed and felt the need to criticize me with petty remarks such as "He only gets girls because he is an American Man". This is the most absolute ridiculous statement I have ever heard. One because a 200 CM man is saying a 175cm man whom many DOn't SEE AS A FOREIGNER in TAIWAN is getting girls because he is a westerner?!! That is ridiculous how he made assumptions like that. In order to gain more value on the dating market I actually had to battle social anxiety disorder which many people called Down Syndrome for many years and lose 20 kilograms from my body frame. It was a seriously an difficult task to perform. You know and the funnier thing is my friend thought her friend was a very attractive man. Had he had the bravery to actually i dunno ASK HER OUT instead calling her to criticize me his chances and her image of him would have been A LOT BETTER. Overall if you're tired of ABCs ,Caucasians, or Asshole natives getting girls then WHY Don't you step up and do something instead being shy and then pulling that "Oh Woe is Me Oh I can't get a girlfriend OOOOH NO" "Did you try asking her out" "mmm no?" "THEN STFU"

Furthermore if they aren't shy they're usually bonehead or idiotically aggressive. One of my friends let's call him JC is a Taiwanese Native and he has a girlfriend that is constantly pestered by men. She often gets "proposed" to or giving lavish gifts by men who wish to be potential partners. When they don't succeed they pretty much behave in a puerile manner. Pretty much hurling insults at JC and asking his girlfriend why she is even with him. One humorous case is when the man actually got angry at JC's girlfriend for spending too much time with JC and not enough with him. This is just one of the most ignorant things I have ever stumbled upon. Since when was ANGER and Jealously an attraction factor? It never was and never will be.

Additionally, a lot of the loser Taiwanese guys often make excuses. It's a big Taiwan thing to not take responsibility for your own actions and blame your misfortunes squarely on something else. Numerous Taiwanese guys often make the excuse that sound something like this, "Oh I have money, cars, and a good job why is she going out with him not me this is bullshit" First of all money has no relevance in a relationship unless you plan to frequent a brothel , barbershop, or yellow KTV. In fact if you go to nightclubs or most places my friend has said it. "Trust me you can drive a BMW have a Rolls Royce but a tall strong slim looking low class mechanic will get the girls". They obviously cannot grasp the idea that you don't start dating after you get established because dating isn't a talent. It is a trial and error activity. No one I know is a natural at dating they've only become good at it because they've dated a lot and learned from their mistakes throughout the years. In short Taiwanese guys who have trouble dating need to learn to be more independent, strong, and stop being so jealous all the time.

Taiwan Girls Easy?

This has been an age long question. Well it is obvious that many foreign men on Taiwan are here for undeserved handouts but instead discussing a pretty obvious topic lets move onto Taiwanese girls and ask the questions "Do Taiwanese girls like foreign men of western descent without even taking into account of personality and white skin?"

First and foremost I believe that it is all dependent on the situation and where you go. Taiwan is an Island of over 20 million people and to make a generalization such as all girls here will go for White men/ABCs or they all stick to local guys is a pretty superficial view of a situation. I realized something about my experimentations on tealit.com or other places the fact is people in Taiwan are still human beings and it's just like back home in America. If you want a girlfriend that is stable you will need to be confident and sure of yourself. If you do not act like this then you will receive nothing but loneliness and be reduced to the art of masturbation.

Confidence is not the key it's also about respecting an individual too. Many Taiwanese girls I talk to have often complained that many foreign men and ABCs do not show them respect. They simply say ridiculous things like "Do you want to be my girlfriend?" or "Hey lets come to my apartment and have fun". So we can also rule out the possibility that Taiwanese women are idiots that cannot see through a person's bad intentions and evident social awkwardness and ineptitude. In fact many are often furious at foreigner attitudes of arrogance in Taiwan but are often reticent to express their feelings in a direct way.

Fact of the matter is if you are a loser that couldn't get a date from a mentally decent human being back in your home country you mostly will not get it abroad or anywhere else either.
